2/27/2010 - Peer Support Forum

In a continued effort to provide educational opportunities to the community, Cumberland County Guidance Center is sponsoring a forum on peer support on Saturday, February 27, 2010 at Millville Public Library, in the Charles E. Grant Room, from 1 to 3 p.m. The program will include presentations by Joan Blose, depression support group; Samuel Levy, NAMI Cumberland County; Margo Smith, GROW; Chris Olausen and members of New Horizons Self Help Center.

Although living with psychiatric issues can present unique challenges, peer support can be a protective factor toward personal, relational, and social well-being. Participation in a community of peer support fosters a reciprocal system of giving and receiving, autonomy, and creative strategies for productive goal achievement that is founded on shared responsibility and empowerment.
