Cumberland County 4-H members will be participating in the 4-H Equestrian of the Year Contest on Sunday, March 6, 2:30 PM at the 4-H Center located in Rosenhayn. This event will be held in conjunction with the annual 4-H horse program dinner. The purpose of this dinner is to recognize all of the 4-H members who took part in state 4-H educational events such as Horse Bowl, Horse Judging, Trail Ride, Equine Presentations and Hippology as well as the State 4-H Horse Show.
Contestants who are in grades 6-7 can participate in the Junior Equestrian of the Year Contest and 4-H members in 8th-12th grade will compete for the title of Cumberland County 4-H Equestrian of the Year. Participation in the Junior Equestrian Contest gives younger 4-H members an opportunity to develop and practice their interviewing and public speaking skills in preparation for the 4-H Equestrian of the Year Contest.
A panel of judges comprised of individuals from the horse industry will review and score each contestant based on their resume, personal interview and stage presentation.
The Cumberland County 4-H Equestrian of the Year will represent our county at the State 4-H Equestrian of the Year Contest scheduled for August 26 at the Horse Park of New Jersey in Stone Tavern. This event is held in conjunction with the NJ State 4-H Championship Horse Show. The purpose of this event is to promote 4-H and the horse industry in New Jersey through public speaking and industry awareness. This event gives candidates an opportunity to express themselves and demonstrate their abilities before a public audience.
