County Library Sponsors Bus Trip to the Pennsylvania Rennaissance Faire

Come join the Halloween Daze and Spooky Knights on October 15 at the Pennsylvania Renaissance Faire. The Faire is partly a craft fair, partly historical reenactment and partly performance art. The workers and visitors dress in costumes typical of the late Elizabethan period. Booths sell crafts and food. Parades wind their way through the crowds. Jugglers, musicians, magicians, and other entertainers perform through the day. Your day is spent examining wares, sampling foods, and watching plays and performers.

Each weekend has a theme.  The one for the October 15 weekend is Halloween Daze and Spooky Knights.

This weekend is full of mystery and mayhem as spooky creatures of every variety haunt the Shire. Join the good Shirefolk of Mount Hope for a grand All Hallows Eve celebration, complete with tricks & treats for children of all ages. Dress in your favorite costume for fun and prizes!

In addition to the regularly scheduled performers, entertainment and stage shows, check out the additional talent, competitions and activities gracing the Shire this weekend below!

Trick or Treating in the Shire
Young visitors are invited to perform tricks to collect treats! Pick up your Shire Trick-or-Treat bag at the Children's Activities Information Booth. A map will be provided indicating which locations should not be missed to fill your bag with sweets and surprises!

Children's Halloween Costume Contest
Whether you are a pirate, princess or creature of the night, come show off all your finery for Queen Elizabeth and her Court!

Adult Costume Contest
Come flaunt your favorite costume in the Halloween Costume Contest! Participants are encouraged to wear their most creative home-fashioned costumes for fantastic prizes!

Do you dare reach inside to discover the scary contents collected by the Shire gravedigger?

Halloween Treasure Hunt
A spooky treasure has been buried upon the Shire, and the Queen needs YOUR help retrieving it. Visit the Informistress Booth inside the Castle Gates for your treasure map. After finding all the clues, proceed to the Chess Board at 5 of the clock to speak the secret password and open the treasure chest.

Albannach
Albannach in Scots Gaelic means “Scotsman”. And Scots they are, born and bred; Jamesie, Jacquie, Donnie, Aya, and Colin write and perform tribal music with roots set firmly in their native soil’s haunting ballads and ancient war songs. A traditional pipe band they’re not… you’ll probably never see them march in a parade. But Albannach’s rhythms and melodies take you back to that bygone time when pipes and songs were banned because of the power they have to stir stout hearts and Celtic souls. Ye canna resist…

Rising Regina 
An exceptionally versatile band, Rising Reginas sound incorporates the best of American roots music including rock, folk, blues, jazz, bluegrass and Celtic. The band has played in many high profile venues and festivals and shared the stage with such diverse artists as Enter The Haggis, The Clarks, Guggenheim Grotto, Kaj, The Weathered Road, and Brewers Row. With their percussive, roots rock sound, tight harmonies, and upbeat, irresistible arrangements, Rising Regina will move you! Irish Blessing, the acclaimed York Pa based family quartet, intensely & unapologetically carries on the purest forms of traditional Irish music & dance.

Terra Serpentis 
Forged from a source of modern underground music, ethereal textures, and Europe’s neo-medieval music scene – Terra Serpentis originally began as a solo/experimental project merging thick and dark atmospheres with historical instruments. It has since grown into a fully operational recording and live project that seeks to capture the essence of middle-ages, ancient, and tribal music. While the project is comparatively young all the band members hail from various areas of performance, music, and art – each bringing a unique set of skills and having a cumulative experience of over 20 years on stage and in the studio

The coach will leave the Cumberland County Library at 8:45 a.m. and return at approximately 8:15 p.m.  The cost of the trip is $45 for adults and $35 for children paid in advance at the time of registration.   This includes the bus transportation and admission. Part of the bus trip is being funded by a grant from the New Jersey State Council on the Arts/Department of State, the National Endowment for the Arts, the Cumberland County Board of Chosen Freeholders and the Cumberland County Cultural and Heritage Commission.
