4-H to Host Dressage Schooling Series Show

The Cumberland County 4-H Horse Program will host a Dressage Schooling Show on Monday, July 4 at the Cumberland County Fair. This show is part of a series of four shows to be offered in the 2011 Cumberland County 4-H Dressage Schooling Show Series and will be held during Cumberland County Fair (July 4-9). The show will begin at 9:00 AM and will be held at the Cumberland County Fairgrounds located at 3001 Carmel Road in Millville.

The show will include introductory level, training level and first level tests as well as supper level tests. The cost is $25.00 per ride. Prizes and 1st-6th place ribbons will be awarded in each class. Closing date for entries is the Monday before the show.

Dressage is an advanced training discipline of horses in which horse and rider combinations perform precision movements at the walk, trot and canter. Entries are judged on exactness and consistency. Dressage has often been described as ballet on horseback.

The 4-H Youth Development Program of Rutgers Cooperative Extension, a unit of the New Jersey Agricultural Experiment Station is open to youth in grades K-13 (one year out of high school) on an age appropriate basis without regard to race, religion, color, national origin, gender, sexual orientation or disability. This Dressage Schooling Show Series is sponsored by the Cumberland County 4-H Horse Committee. The officers of this group include President, Janet Biederman of Bridgeton; Vice President, Ingrid Bergen of Vineland; Secretary, Denise Smith of Deerfield Township and Treasurer, Barbara Newkirk from Roadstown.
