5/11/2012 - Yoga Classes for Seniors at County Library

Basic yoga for older adults continues at the Cumberland County Library on Monday, May 21 at 10:30 a.m.  All are welcome. There will be classes every Monday in June as well. Bring your mat and set up a little early. There is no charge but a donation to the instructor is suggested.

Ceci Brandt leads the yoga practice. She is a certified yoga teacher having practiced for 15 years.

Learning  how to breathe is an important thing to do while holding postures. Breathing slowly and deeply and concentrating on an object for focus will coordinate the body and mind.

Poses begin and end gracefully.

The session starts with a brief meditation and ends with one to center yourself and bring your focus inside.

Everyone is encouraged not to push too hard to avoid pain or injury.

Neck exercises, shoulder lifts, leg lifts and many other asanas (poses) are practiced.

Yoga has many benefits ranging from improved flexibility, strength, posture, use of joints, strengthening bones, improved circulation, lowered blood pressure, increased relaxation, improved balance and reduced mental stress.

Cumberland County Library is located at 800 E. Commerce St. (Route 49), Bridgeton.  Call 856-453-2210 Ext. 101 for further information.
