Cumberland County Library’s Summer Reading Program
Bridgeton — Cumberland County Library is kicking off the summer reading and programming events this year on Saturday, July 21 with face painting, stories, crafts, and snacks. The time for the program is 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. “Dream Big, Read” is the theme for the summer reading program.
Children’s library assistant, “Ms. Melody”, Melody Magee, will read to the younger children and discuss keeping a log of reading books for the summer. Special prizes will be awarded to the children who read the most books.
Attending library programs during the summer and reading eight books can help children to maintain their reading levels while they are out of school.
The next children’s program will be showcased on Wednesday, July 25 at 1:30 p.m. It will be a movie watching Rapunzel’s journey to make her dream come true. Popcorn, candy and juice will be served.
On Monday, July 30 at 11 a.m. stories and crafts will be featured on the theme of wishes.
Wednesday, August 1 at 6 p.m. a scary night of stories and crafts will be presented.
Saturday, August 4 at 11 a.m. stars, celestial sky themed stories and crafts are highlighted.
Wednesday, August 8 a skating party at Skate 2000 will take place along with Bridgeton Public Library.
Saturday, August 11 at 11 a.m. will feature Buddy the star of children’s books performing “Buddy’s Big Dream”. Buddy is the main character of the books, Buddy’s Rainy Day and What’s Wrong with Buddy? Buddy was beloved by the children at the library when he visited last year and encouraged kids to read. Meet author JoDenise Muller; illustrator Danett Bolton, who is a Cumberland County Library assistant and of course, Buddy the Chihuahua as he changes costumes while dreaming of being a big dog. Will he fulfill his dreams?
Prizes will be awarded to the top readers and snacks will be served.
