Mobile Devices, BYOG and the Library
The mobile device revolution is more than “on the way.” It’s here. An ever increasing number of library users are bringing their own devices (BYOD) or gadgets (BYOG) to use in the library and are using these gadgets to access library resources “on the go” or beyond library walls.
Today, there’s iThis and iThat and devices from companies like Apple, Samsung, Google, Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Acer, ASUS, Sony, Microsoft, and many more. There are touch-screens in all sizes, from 3 inch to 7 inch to 10 inch and beyond. It’s hard to keep track of what’s out there, what might be best for you, and how they can be used.
There are more and more library resources and services now available that can be accessed by MP3 players, iPODs, smartphones, E-Readers, tablets, netbooks, ultrabooks, convertibles and more traditional laptops and notebooks.
Join Cumberland County Library’s resident tech for an introduction and examination of the many mobile options out there for you to choose from and how to better use them to access library materials like E-Audiobooks, E-Books, periodicals, journals and other databases (free!) and more. This class will be held on Thursday, February 28- Mobile Devices, BYOG & the library. Start Time: 2:00PM.
Feel free to bring in your device or gadget to learn how to use library products and apps. The session will target apps from EBSCO publishing, Sirsi/Dynix, OverDrive and more. You will also look at the library’s mobile web sites and use all these resources from the libraries’ recently upgraded wireless network.
Cumberland County Library is located at 800 E. Commerce St., Bridgeton, NJ 08302. Call 856-453-2210 for further information.
