4/9/2013 - Puppy Power at the Library

Cumberland County Library Children’s Program

Tuesday, April 30th at 6:30pm the Cumberland County Library’s Children’s Reading Program will welcome the Puppy Power 4-H Club to the library. Children will have a great time getting to know the puppies! Youth and adults members of Puppy Power 4-H Club receive 7 week old puppies from The Seeing Eye.  The puppy raisers are responsible to expose the pup to a variety of experiences and social situations as part of the 4-H Seeing Eye Puppy Raising Project. Members attend monthly 4-H meetings to learn about how to care for their dog and to teach the puppy basic obedience.  The children nurture and care for their charges until they are about 13 to 15 months old.  When puppies are approximately 14 months old, they return to the Seeing Eye in Morristown, NJ to begin formal guide dog training.  At the end of a four-month training period, dogs are matched with a blind person; then they train as a pair for 28 days.  For more information about how your family can become involved in the 4-H Seeing Eye Program, go to www.seeingeye.org or call the 4-H Center at 856-451-2800.

The program is free and everyone is welcome. There will be a registration sheet at the front desk of the library. You may call 856-453-2210 to register.

Cumberland County Library is located at 800 E. Commerce St. (Route 49), Bridgeton, NJ.  Call 856-453-2210 ext. 101 for further information.
