Cumberland County Library Will “Make” Your Day!
Cumberland County Library is proud to join the list of participating libraries for NJ Makers Day on Saturday, March 21, 2015, with a series of special programs in celebration.
From 10-11:30am, at “Makin’ Card – Stampin’ Up,” learn the simple ways to create all occasion greeting cards using rubber stamps and ink. There will be easy step-by-step instructions given by Bernadette Doerr, an independent Stampin’ Up demonstrator who has been involved with this art form for 13 years. She will be ably assisted by the library’s own Gina Allewelt, an excellent crafter and maker in her own right. Participants get to take their creations home, too. For all ages.
With “Are U Into Arduino?” from 11:30am to 1pm, find how the Arduino inventor’s kit can get you started with programming and hardware interaction. See a demonstration of Arduino in action to create simple circuits. If time permits, you might also get a chance to see Makey Makey at work to create input devices. This more technology-oriented (yet still fun!) program is for children and adults.
At 2:00pm, local (Vineland) artist Barbara Estelle, illustrator of the recently published children’s book Under the Teddy Bear, will be on hand to help grade-schoolers create their own story books, in “My Story Book, My Creation.” Participants get to take their creations home, as well. Throughout the program Mrs. Estelle will also outline the creative and publishing process. Also, children will experience a special telling of Under the Teddy Bear.
Also at 2:00pm, you’ve no doubt heard about it. Now, experience a 3D printer at work with your own eyes at our “3D Printing 2 Day” program. In addition to the demo, there will also be a discussion about the important elements of 3D printing, how it works, how to use it, selection criteria, tools and software needed and much more. Some participants may get a chance to win a 3D printed creation. Please remember to bring your library card or sign up for one for a chance to win. All ages welcome.
Throughout the day, light refreshments will be served.
