Community Service Worker
Starting Salary: $34,000


Duties: Reports to the Program Director of the Outreach Program/Aging & Disability Resource Connection; under supervision, provides information and referral and benefits counseling to senior citizens and/or disabled clients; assists clients in completing applications for various benefits; responsible for maintaining and updating resource information when observed; conducts home visits; arranges transportation for clients when appropriate; promotes local community resource programs for elderly and disabled residents; provides referrals to other agencies for additional services; encourages the elderly and disabled residents to become self-supporting when possible; provides assistance to the elderly and disabled within the scope of the office functions; identifies and obtains services for the elderly and disabled having extraordinary needs beyond the scope of the office’s functions; enlists the assistance of the resident's family, friends, and other social service agencies; prepares reports of program activities; establishes and maintains essential records and files; documents referral work within established computer program; and other duties as requested.

Education: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's degree.
NOTE: Applicants who do not possess the required education may substitute experience in community relations work involving the promotion of local community resources or field work in a social service or public assistance program on a year for year basis.

Requirements: Ability to read, write, speak, and understand or otherwise communicate in English sufficiently to perform the duties of this position. Ability to utilize a computer and other office equipment (i.e., fax and copy machines), with particular emphasis on Microsoft Office software programs. Ability to follow procedures and daily instructions. Possession of a valid New Jersey driver’s license required.

Hours: 35 hours per week, Monday through Friday.
