Starting Salary:  $33,000*

Duties: Reports to the Supervising Public Safety Telecommunicator; performs duties under close supervision; receives and transmits police, fire, other emergency alarms and telephone requests and communicates to appropriate agencies and personnel; studies the operation of a variety of equipment including terminal-computer oriented data processing and communications equipment; learns to work rapidly and accurately under time pressures, distractions and stress; observes how information is received and maintained and ensures confidentiality; cooperates with supervisory officers and PSTs to assure accurate and prompt handling of all calls; related work as required.

Requirements: Ability to speak clearly and concisely in a pleasant manner under stressful circumstances. Ability to quickly comprehend written and oral explanations and demonstrations. Ability to work rapidly and accurately under pressure of time, distractions and stress.  Familiarity with basic laws and regulations, including the laws, rules, regulations, standards, policies and procedures of the FCC helpful. Ability to function harmoniously in an organized and effective teamwork environment dependent upon responsiveness and accuracy.

Note: Selected applicant will be required to take a dispatching software test prior to an interview.

Requires 12-hour shifts of 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. or 7 p.m. to 7 a.m.  Offers of employment are contingent upon successful completion of physical fitness screening and drug screenings. 

* Appointees who successfully complete the 12-month training period will be eligible for advancement under Civil Service Commission procedure to the title of Public Safety Telecommunicator. The inability of an employee in this title to attain a level of performance warranting advancement and where applicable, certification by OETS, will be cause for separation.
