Starting Salary: $44,000
Definition: Under supervision in a County Employment and Training Center, conducts formal and informal classes and training designed to address the employment and/or educational need of the participants; provides occupational, vocational or educational instruction which may include remedial education, GED preparation and/or job search skills; does other related duties.
Duties: Identify participants educational and employability needs based on test results, course requirements and level of participant’s job readiness. Provide group and individual lesson plans, changing as needed, to suit the educational and employability needs of the participants. Prepare curriculum using a wide range of relevant software programs, textbooks and audio-visual equipment and materials. Instruct participants in the development of resumes, cover letters and proper completion of employment applications. Instruct participants in the use of computers as a job search tool for searching websites for employment, completing and submitting on-line job applications and resumes. Provide instruction to participants for careers in the field of computer software and hardware development, Microsoft, computer technology and programming. Provide individual instruction for participants in need of remedial education or the upgrading of literacy skills. Maintains an orderly classroom. Confers with a Supervisor, co-instructors, and other supportive personnel through individual conferences and general meetings, to provide for the maximum development of each participant. Administer GED pre-testing, conduct GED preparation classes including essay writing. Coordinates submission of paperwork and scheduling of participants for the GED test. Maintains essential student records and reports, which may consist of test results, progress reports, participation, attendance and evaluation of program status.
Requirements: Applicants must meet one of the following or a combination of both experience and education. Thirty (30) semester-hour credits are equal to one (1) year of relevant experience.
Five (5) years of professional experience in counseling, teaching, and/or guidance in an organized education program or employment agency, or any combination of.
OR
Possession of a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university; and one (1) year of the above-mentioned professional experience.
Note: "Professional experience" refers to work that is analytical, evaluative, and interpretive; requires a range of basic knowledge of the profession's concepts and practices; and is performed with the authority to act and make accurate and informed decisions.
