Duties: Under direction and close clinical supervision from a Supervising Counselor (LCADC), provides substance abuse counseling to clients implementing 12 core functions: screening, intake, orientation, assessment, treatment planning, counseling – individual, group and family, case management, crisis intervention, client education, referral, consultation, and record keeping. Comply with all Federal and State statutes and regulations, learn the varied tasks involved in providing counseling services, and perform other related duties as assigned.

Requirements:
•Substance Abuse Counselor 1: Applicants must possess a certificate as a Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor (CADC), issued by the Board of Marriage and Family Therapy Examiners, New Jersey Division of Consumer Affairs, Department of Law and Public Safety. Applicants who possess the credentials as a Licensed Clinical Alcohol and Drug Counselor (LCADC) are considered to have met the above certification requirements. One (1) year of experience in counseling or social work having responsibility for gathering and analyzing social or health information from clients, the determination of their needs, and the planning and carrying out of a treatment plan geared to the needs of individual clients. •Substance Abuse Counselor Intern: Appointees must provide proof of enrollment in the course work required under N.J.A.C. 13:34C-2.3(b)4 and will be granted a maximum of three (3) years to complete the Intern Program. Candidates not possessing a CADC are considered Counselor Interns and will receive on-the-job training in how to perform the above referenced functions. •Must be able to work with clients and maintain confidentiality in accordance with 42 CFR and HIPAA regulations.
•Must be able to read, write, and speak the English language. Bilingual in Spanish preferred.
•Possession of a high school diploma or GED
•Possession of a valid New Jersey Driver's License


Hours: Full-time 35 hours pers week, with some evening hours required.


Note: Offer of employment for this title is contingent upon successful completion of physical fitness testing that includes drug screening.
