DEFINITION: Under direction, supervises the activities of Omnibus Operators; may also drive, clean, service, and make minor repairs to vehicles used in transporting persons on assigned established routes or to special activities, events, or destinations; does related work as required.


DUTIES: Supervise the day-to-day operations and staff (omnibus operators) of various fixed-route and related transportation services that function to assist individuals in getting to/from work, training and/or education activities.  Organizes assigned work and develops effective work methods.  Gives suitable assignments to subordinates. Maintain ridership, condition/repair and route service records/logs.  Responsible for ensuring that vehicles are routinely scheduled for preventative maintenance and related services necessary to meet public transportation safety standards. Prepares clear, sound, accurate, and informative reports. May assist in route design/redesign processes.  May act as a substitute and/or special services route driver as needed.  Train new drivers.  Checks, cleans, and performs minor servicing of vehicles. Runs pre-trip inspection before driving any county vehicle and ensures all drivers are doing the same. Establishes and maintains needed records and files.  May be required to learn to utilize various types of electronic and/or manual recording and information systems used by the agency, office, or related units. Ensure state and local laws, rules, regulations, policies, and procedures dealing with the public transportation operations and of motor vehicle regulations are followed.

REQUIREMENTS: Three (3) years of experience in operating a motor vehicle used in the transportation of six (6) or more persons.  Appointees must possess a driver's license valid in New Jersey with a valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL-B) with Passenger Endorsement.  Ability to read, write, speak, understand, or communicate in English sufficiently to perform the duties of this position.  

HOURS: 35 hours per week, Monday through Friday.

NOTE: Offers of employment for this title are contingent upon successful completion of physical fitness testing, including drug screenings.
