Duties: Under supervision, assesses the education and training needs of participants and assists in their motivation.  Provides and/or makes referrals to appropriate work experience and training services, as a means of improving the employability of participants. Participates with other staff in the development of individual employability plans. Assigns individuals to appropriate phases of work experience and training programs after reviewing educational records, employment histories, and other related information. Counsels project participants on matters relating to training, work habits, motivation, and relations with instructors or employers. Monitors progress of participants. Promotes business services, including on-the-job and incumbent worker training, tax credits, career services, hiring events, Workforce NJ and adult literacy programs. Attends Chamber of Commerce meetings and other events in Cape May and Salem counties to market services to public, nonprofit, and private employers. Maintains essential records and files. Performs other duties as required.  

Requirements: Possession of a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university and one (1) year of professional experience in assessing education and training needs and providing referrals for work experience and training services. Applicants who do not meet the educational requirement may substitute additional work experience on a year-for-year basis. Possession of a master’s degree in psychology, Education, Counseling, Social Work, or related fields from an accredited college or university may be substituted.

Knowledge of the types of community resources available to increase employability. Ability to prepare clear, sound, accurate and informative reports and correspondence containing findings, conclusions, and recommendations. Ability to learn and utilize various types of electronic and/or manual recording and information systems used by the office. Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred. Must possess a valid New Jersey driver’s license as this position requires extensive travel to and work within Cape May and Salem counties.

Hours:  Typical work shifts are daytime shifts Monday through Friday, 35 hours per week; however, flexibility in the work schedule is required. Some nights and weekends are required due to the nature of the work.

Note:  Offers of employment for this title are contingent upon successful completion of physical fitness testing, including drug screen.
