“4-H boys and girls who took part in the February 5, 4-H Favorite Food Show at the Cumberland Mall received rave reviews from hundreds of shoppers who admired their food, centerpieces and original table settings”, said County 4-H Agent, Jeannette Rea-Keywood.

Winners received trophies, presented by the Millville Kiwanis Club, co-sponsor of the 4-H Favorite Food Show. Top winners in the Senior Division (Grades 8-13) were Jennie Ferrara of Bridgeton, a member of 4-H Teen Council; Heather Koering from Vineland, a member of the Pony Pals 4-H Club and Fairway Equestrians 4-H Club; Contessa Ketterer of Cedarville, a member of the Cedar Hollow 4-H Club.

The high-scorers in the Junior Division (grades 4-7) who received 4-H trophies included:

  • Cole Killeen of Elmer, a member of the Fairway Equestrians 4-H Club

Paul Dice, President of the Millville Kiwanis Club, was on hand to congratulate 4-H participants and assist with the presentation of ribbons and other awards. The 2011 Cumberland County Ambassadors Tabitha Camp of Millville and Brittany Weir of Dividing Creek also assisted with the awards program.

Each 4-H contestant brought in their fully baked or prepared food, created an original table setting, centerpiece and well-balanced menu. All this was set-up and displayed on tables in the Cumberland Mall and judged by local home economists, educators, 4-H alumni and former 4-H leaders.

Contestants were judged for the texture, flavor and appearance of their favorite food, a nutritious, well-balanced menu and their creative table setting. Participants received a rating of “Excellent,” “Very Good,” or “Good.” A 4-H gift and a ribbon were presented to all, courtesy of the Millville Kiwanis Club.

Judges for this year’s event were Barbara Schwab, Betsy Waltman, Linda Strieter, Paula Ring, Ruth Ann Hands, Shelly Tifton, Carol Lodge, MaryLou Rochford and Jane Hankins.

The 4-H Youth Development Program of Rutgers Cooperative Extension, a unit of the New Jersey Agricultural Experimental Station is open to all youth in grades K-13 (one year out of high school) on an age appropriate basis regardless of race, religion, color, national origin, gender, sexual orientation or disability.
