4/12/2011 - Library Visit To Assemblyman Burzichelli's Office

In a meeting on Tuesday at the State House Annex in Trenton, Assemblyman John Burzichelli agreed to work to help restore per capita state aid to the 2010 appropriation level. The New Jersey State Library is requesting the restoration of $3.5 million to the libraries of New Jersey.

The State Library is also seeking $5 million in Library Emergency Aid to libraries in distressed areas with the highest levels of unemployment in order to keep the facilities open, staff available and access to technology and job seeking courses when the efforts of those libraries to assist the under-employed and unemployed job seekers is most needed.

This aid would assist libraries such as the Cumberland County Library currently faced with possible closure and struggling to survive.

Assemblyman Burzichelli supports the Cumberland County Library and was very concerned about the current situation. Ms. Edwards reported to him on the strong advocacy efforts of the community, attendance at freeholder meetings, the press coverage, the New Jersey Network news coverage and the WSNJ “Around the County” radio show. He was aware of all of the news coverage. She also shared with him some of the hundreds of letters and emails that had been sent with positive, passionate comments by residents.
