Asian Collection on Display at County Library

The Cumberland County Library is hosting an exhibit in honor of Asian–Pacific American Heritage month. In 1977 a congressional bill was passed designating ten days in May to celebrate Asian-Pacific American Heritage. In 1992 President George H. W. Bush extended the celebration to continue through the month. The Asian-Pacific region covers the continent of Asia and the Pacific Islands including the regions of Melanesia, Micronesia and Polynesia.

Batik fabric from Bali, carved ivory from China, enamelware from Thailand and contemporary Japanese ceramics in traditional style are a few of the colorful objects in our main floor display case. Youngsters will enjoy looking for a Goth-style “Hello Kitty” and an animé stuffed rabbit. There is even a Japanese children’s lunch box or bento box!
