It’s easy to hear that news and get completely discouraged and disheartened, but now more than ever, it’s important to come together and find out what we can do as a community to stop this violence taking place in our streets,” Kelly said.

Residents, business owners, clergy and local law enforcement officials are invited to discuss possible solutions to the violence, including possible formation of neighborhood crime watch programs, implementation of violence intervention hot lines and other actions to stem the tide the violence taking place in Bridgeton.

There are no quick or easy answers, but the first step is to talk out loud about the issues as well as possible solutions, to see our way forward in dialing down the violence,” said Kelly. “People are dying, and just hoping the problem takes care of itself is no longer an option.”

Kelly hopes to assemble a working group of volunteers to meet regularly and formulate ideas and programs to lessen the number of violent incidences taking place in different parts of the city.

There won’t be just one solution, but having more eyes and ears through crime watch or even a hot line where friends or family who know something’s about to blow up can call anonymously and alert authorities before things get to the point of no return. We’ve got to keep working at this,” Kelly said. “We are willing to try any number of things to get this problem in hand. Some things will work while others won’t, but the main thing is to keep trying until we have success.”
