Construction crews have begun what’s expected to be a one-month repair job on storm-damaged West Park Drive, an important travel route through Bridgeton and Upper Deerfield that was severed during the August 14th floods.
Crews from South State Inc. began the work this morning, which will rebuild the eroded embankment and re-establish the paved roadway that collapsed when Sunset Lake washed over it during the storm.

“Our priority from the very beginning has been to get our roads open as quickly as possible for the people who depend on them every day,” said Cumberland County Freeholder Director William Whelan. “School begins next week and we need to keep our county moving.”
If the weather cooperates, Whelan says they hope to have West Park reopened by October 1st.”
Two other roadways closed in the August 14th storm are expected to reopen in the next week as well. Tices Lane is scheduled to be opened by late Friday and Parsonage Road is expected be be opened by next Wednesday.
“Our public works crews have done an outstanding job dealing with both recent storms,” said Freeholder Sam Fiocchi, chairman of the County Public Works Department. “Their work has made it possible to reopen as many roads as we have by now.”
