Sherman Avenue at the Boulevard Reopens After Nine-Month Construction
December 29, 2011

Traffic began flowing again through the newly constructed intersection of Sherman Avenue (CR 552) and the SE/SW Boulevards in Vineland Thursday afternoon after the completion of a major nine-month improvement project.

The $3.1 million federally funded project began back in March improving the section of Sherman Avenue on both sides of the intersection with SE and SW Boulevards as well as the Conrail railroad tracks that run between them.

Most notably, Sherman Avenue is now up to the grade of the tracks.

The project also added two additional lanes to Sherman Avenue at the intersection as well as a traffic signal. Conrail improved and widened the railroad-crossing surface.

“Drivers can now cross through the intersection with a greater sense of safety,” said Freeholder Sam Fiocchi, Chairman of the Department of Public Works.

For at least the first five days, all intersections will be multi stop with a flashing red signal. After that, the intersection will be switched over to a controlled signal.

The project had been in the planning stages since 2004.

“I’m happy we can finally bring these improvements to our residents,” said Freeholder Fiocchi.”
