COUNTY WIDE CLEANUP CONTINUES
CUMBERLAND COUNTY – With most residents cleaning up and getting their yards back to normal, and county road crews cutting up and removing fallen trees, brush and debris, piles of brush can be seen curbside in front of homes and along streets and roads throughout the region. The downed trees and debris, results from the Super-Derecho Wind Storm that hit our area recently.
The thunderstorm which hit Cumberland County on Saturday, June 30th 2012 just after midnight produced straight line winds that produced wide spread power outages from downed trees, utility poles, and debris, which left many areas without power and crippled roadways. More than 190,000 residents in South Jersey lost electrical power as a result of the storms. In the City of Vineland, the Vineland Municipal Electric Utility reports that 100 utility poles had to be replaced and 40 transformers on the poles had to be replaced. Cleanup efforts continue across the county, as things are beginning to get back to normal. Vineland Municipal Electric Utility reports that less than 10 customers are still without power, and they hope to have their power restored later today.
The Cumberland County Department of Public Works will continue to cut up trees and debris and remove them from around the county. County Officials say they will pick up and remove brush and debris from along county roads for county residents that live on county roads, if they pile their tree branches and debris curbside for pickup.
Vineland Officials are asking anyone that’s still without power, to call them at: (856) 794-4280.
Vineland City Road Department asks residents to notify them of any branches or tree limbs that are still hanging over roadways or lying on power wires, by calling them at: (856) 794-4250.
