County Announces Reopening of Matt’s Landing Road

Cumberland County, NJ – Cumberland County Department of Public Works Freeholder Liaison Tony Surace announced today that as of 3:30 this afternoon, the County will re-open Matts Landing Road located in Maurice River Township, Cumberland County.

Surace said, "The road was originally damaged as a result of Super Storm Sandy. Don Olbrich and his team at the Department of Public Works worked with a local contractor to repair and reopen the road in mid-December. Unfortunately due to a State owned dike failure, the road was again compromised and had to be closed. Today, with the dike repairs in place, and the repairs made to the roadway, I am very pleased that we are now finally at a point that it can be reopened".

The estimated total cost for repairs is $257,000. Of that amount, FEMA has initially approved $67,000. The County is appealing to FEMA to fund the balance of the project cost. Contractors will be on site for few additional days to ensure that the punch list is complete.

Upon being notified of the road opening, Maurice River Township Mayor Andy Sarclette "this is great news. I truly appreciate the cooperation that the Township received from Don Olbrich, the County Engineering team as well as the Freeholder Board to ensure that this project was completed promptly. Promptly is not a term generally associated with government projects. A job well done!"

Freeholder Director Bill Whelan said, "I am very pleased with the great work of our Department of Public Works and appreciate the collaborative effort of both Maurice River Township and the County in order to complete this project. As we kick off the spring season, we want everyone to know that the Matt’s Landing Marinas are open for business. Please support our local businesses.
