Officials Invite Public Input on Disaster Planning
December 8, 2014
The Cumberland County Office of Emergency Management (O.E.M.) is asking the community to help shape a new plan that will prepare the county for future disasters.
O.E.M. along with the county’s 14 municipalities is in the process of updating the county's Multi-Jurisdictional Hazard Mitigation Plan.
Hazard mitigation measures are efforts taken before a disaster happens to lessen the impact that future disasters of that type will have on people and property in the community. They are things you do
today to be more protected in the future.
Hazard mitigation actions taken in advance of a hazard event are essential to breaking the typical disaster cycle of damage, reconstruction, and repeated damage. With careful selection, hazard mitigation
actions can be long-term, cost-effective means of reducing the risk of loss and help create a more disaster-resistant and sustainable community.
Meetings have been held across the county over the past several months to gather information from the public into draft plans which can be viewed at any of the municipality websites or at
http://nj4hmp.com/cumberland-county/.
In addition to reviewing the plans on-line, the public is invited offer any comments at the Cumberland County Local Emergency Management Coordinator’s Meeting to be held on Thursday, December 18th
at 6:30PM at the Mauricetown Fire Hall (9544 Noble Street, in Mauricetown, Commercial Township).
Meetings will also be held in each municipality (check your municipality’s website for the date, time and location).
