Cumberland County Veterans Cemetery Announces Holiday Decoration Removal

Hopewell Township – The Cumberland County Department of Veteran Affairs is seeking assistance from the family and friends of loved ones interred at the Veterans Cemetery. Buildings & Grounds will be removing all Christmas and holiday decorations from the gravesites on or shortly after January 15th, 2016. If anyone has placed decorations that they wish to re-claim please do so by this date.

County Veteran Affairs Director Diana Pitman, said, “this request is in accordance with rules and regulations that were put into place by the County Veterans Commission that mirror guidelines set by Military and Veterans’ Cemeteries throughout the Nation. She said that preserving the appearance of the Cemetery through uniformity is unique to Military and Veterans’ Cemeteries.”

Additionally, the Department reminds everyone that during normal periods throughout the calendar year, only two cones of flowers (live/artificial) may be displayed at the top edge of the grave marker. No plants, balloons, solar lights, flags or other decorations may be displayed.

If members of the public have questions or would like to obtain a copy of these rules, please contact the Cumberland County Department of Veteran Affairs at 856-238-6800. The guidelines are also posted on signs at the cemetery.
