Cumberland County Freeholders Approve Thousands for Area Feeding Programs/Soup Kitchens

Bridgeton, NJ – The Cumberland County Board of Chosen Freeholders under the leadership of Director Joe Derella, approved $60,000 in funding for local feeding programs throughout Cumberland County.

Director Derella said, “the Freeholder Board recognizes that there many hungry people in all of our communities throughout the County. While $60,000 only scratches the surface of what is needed, we are pleased to be a partner in being able to provide meaningful support to battle hunger in our County”.

Cumberland County has been providing funding to assist with several feeding programs throughout the community for many years. While this funding was previously provided through PEER Group Funds which the County no longer receives, the Board of Chosen Freeholders is committed to continuing its partnership with organizations that provide this service to help fight hunger. All organizations that responded to the RFP received funds. The following is a list of the funding recipients: Gateway Community Action Partnership of NJ, Spirit & Truth Ministries, The Society of Saint Vincent de Paul, First Presbyterian Church of Vineland, and Bethel Development Corporation.

The process includes a response to a Request for Proposals that is advertised by the County. Organizations that provide feeding programs within the County respond with their proposals to furnish and provide soup kitchen and foodbank program services. Proposals are reviewed for completeness and eligibility and funds are awarded accordingly.
