Cumberland County Office of Emergency Management

On the evening of Tuesday May 23, 2017 a message displayed on the public broadcast system regarding an emergency incident at the Salem Hope Creek Nuclear Power Plant. The Cumberland County Office of Emergency Management has confirmed that there was no incident at the power plant and that this was an inaccurate report. According to Cumberland County Public Safety Director and OEM Coordinator Ed Conrow, “The message was not initiated from the County level but from the State of New Jersey”. Officials are investigating how the incident occurred and what steps will be taken to ensure the process is corrected.


Immediately upon notification of the false message, at 9:20 PM the Cumberland County Office of Emergency Management initiated its SwiftReach reverse 911 to alert residents of the error. They completed the calls at 10:27 PM. A total of 69,095 calls were made and of that, 30,015 were answered. Residents who would like to register with SwiftReach may do so by going to the following website and register business numbers, cell phone numbers and unlisted numbers, http//cumberlandcountynj.gov/OEM. Click on the SwiftReach link and once the Swift911 Portal is displayed, click on the register now tab.
