Freeholder Board Authorizes $5,000 each to the
Cities of Bridgeton, Millville and Vineland for Code Blue
Bridgeton, NJ – Cumberland County Freeholder Director Joe Derella announced that as a result of the extended period of extreme cold weather in 2017 and 2018, the County Board of Chosen Freeholders has approved 3 Resolutions authorizing $5,000 in funding to each City, Bridgeton, Millville and Vineland for the operation of their Code Blue Programs. Derella said “we approached each of the three City Mayors about the idea of leveraging the County funds with each City also matching the $5,000.00 donated by County Government”. (Resolution numbers 2018-81, 82 and 83)
Director Derella said, “We greatly appreciate the work of all of the volunteers and staff that have dedicated their time to help. The extreme extended cold weather has been a hardship for the volunteers of all three programs. The County, together with the three Cities wanted to identify an opportunity that would have a meaningful impact on the Code Blue Program. We are hopeful that this funding will assist in carrying the program though the end of the 2018 winter season.”
The Resolutions call for the County to enter into a shared services agreement with each City to provide support services to the Code Blue Shelter Program. Derella concluded, “I want to extend the Freeholder Boards sincere THANKS to Mayor Kelly, Mayor Santiago and Mayor Fanucci to their support and enthusiasm in partnering with Cumberland County to make this a reality”.
