Cumberland County Department of Human Services implemented the S.P.I.R.I.T. Initiative in 2017. The S.P.I.R.I.T. Culture is an acronym that stands for Service, Proper (Communication), Interaction, Reassurance (Compassion), Integrity, and Teamwork. The application of S.P.I.R.I.T. principles facilitates an atmosphere where clients and staff feel valued and appreciated. S.P.I.R.I.T. also includes many employee engagement events and an internal employee recognition program. The S.P.I.R.I.T. Award recognizes employees for demonstrating the Department's Values, on a daily, quarterly, and yearly basis. Annually, one employee is selected as "Employee of the Year" and is honored at the S.P.I.R.I.T. Recognition Celebration.
This year, the S.P.I.R.I.T. Employee of the Year was Dawn Heaton. Dawn demonstrated all the values that the S.P.I.R.I.T. Award encompasses and was therefore recognized as this year's awardee.
