Cumberland County Secures $2 Million dollars
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Bridgeton, NJ (August 28, 2023)
The Cumberland County Government was relying on receiving 2 million dollars as to the ongoing construction of the Rowan University Medical Building on the Rowan College of South Jersey Campus. The previous administration had nothing, but a single letter signed by a Rowan University Official containing three contingencies that would need to be satisfied before receiving the $2 million dollars. No action had previously been taken to see that the contingencies were satisfied.
Through the efforts of State Senator Micheal Testa, John Keating, President of Rowan College of South Jersey and Cumberland County Administration, the contingencies were satisfied, the Rowan University Board voted to approve the funds and this week Cumberland County received the 2 million dollars upon which the project relied.
The project, a two-story, 17,354 square-foot Rowan Medicine Center in Cumberland will be an essential an important expansion of clinical services for Cumberland County, and the surrounding region. The building will be comprised of three clinical areas. The first floor will house the Rowan Integrated Special Needs (RISN) Center, providing primary and behavioral health care services for individuals with physical, intellectual, and developmental disabilities. Along with RISN, the first floor will also offer Rowan Medicine's Neuromusculoskeletal Institute (NMI). The NMI provides medication assisted treatment combined with counseling to assist patients as they recover from addiction.
The second floor will be home to the globally respected Child Abuse Research Education and Service Institute (CARES), which will provide an assortment of medical and mental health services developed to help heal children and families who have experienced abuse or trauma.
The great collaboration between all parties involved resulted in securing the funds for the project, that upon completion will provide essential services to the South Jersey regional area residents. County Commissioner Antonio Romero stated “This is win for everyone. There is no disputing the benefit of having a state-of-the-art medical facility right here in Cumberland County. I fully support projects that will help improve the health outcomes in the County.”
