7/12/2024 - Cumberland County Fair Kicks Off with Grand Opening Ceremony and Community Celebrations
The opening ceremonies of the 2024 Cumberland County Fair, the oldest county fair in New Jersey, took place on Thursday, July 11th. The event was graced by the presence of all the Cumberland County Commissioners and Constitutional Officers, who joined in the celebration. Among those present were Commissioner Director Joe Sileo, Deputy Director Antonio Romero, Commissioners Victoria Lods, Jim Sauro, Art Marchand, Sandra Taylor, and Douglas Albrecht. County Clerk Celeste M. Riley, Surrogate Rudolph "Skip" Luisi, and Sheriff Michael Donato also attended, alongside Mayors Benjamin Romanik and Albert Kelly.
The ceremony was marked by a variety of highlights, beginning with a stirring rendition of the national anthem. This was followed by a parade showcasing the achievements of local 4-H clubs. Elected officials delivered remarks celebrating the fair's rich history and community impact. A particularly noteworthy moment was the awarding of the first Cyndy Hetzell Dream Foundation Scholarship, which symbolized the fair's commitment to fostering youth development.
The opening event signaled the start of a week filled with family-friendly activities at the Fairgrounds. The fair is dedicated to celebrating the extraordinary youth involved in various 4-H programs and offers a range of attractions including amusements, delicious food, and diverse vendors. The festivities continue tonight and Friday, with the fair concluding on Saturday night.
