8/12/2024 - Downe Township Breaks Ground on Sewer Project: A Decade in the Making
August 9th marked a historic day as ground was broken on the Downe Township Sewer Project, a transformative initiative that has been over a decade in the making!

This project was made possible through the collaboration of the U.S. Department of Agriculture, our Federal Legislators, the State, and the Cumberland County Board of County Commissioners. Special thanks to Jane Asselta, New Jersey State Director for Rural Development, who opened the ceremony, emphasizing the perseverance and partnership that brought us to this moment. Her words reminded us of the importance of securing a future for our local residents and the shellfish industry.

We were honored to have US Senator Cory Booker, US Representative Jeff Van Drew, and NJ State Senator Michael Testa join us today, each speaking on the critical importance of seeing this project come to life. Their support has been invaluable.

Mayor Mike Rothman closed the ceremony by highlighting the incredible efforts of everyone involved in this project. We were also joined by local dignitaries, including Cumberland County Commissioners Sauro, Lods, Marchand, Taylor, Deputy Commissioner Director Romero, and Commissioner Director Sileo.

This is just the beginning of a brighter, healthier future for Downe Township!
