Request for Public Records
In accordance with the Open Public Records Act, Cumberland County makes available its public records through formal requests to the Custodian of Records.
Requests may be submitted in writing using a paper "records request form" or through the online portal. All requests made will be published to the Online Portal.

- Fill out each portion that is applicable to the request made.

- Fill out each portion that is applicable to the request made.
- The paper version of the request may be mailed to the address below, dropped off in person to the Custodian of Records between the hours of 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday-Friday or faxed to 856-453-2168.
All requests received by mail, fax, or in-person will be entered into the online portal by the Custodian of Records.
If your request for access to a government record has been denied or unfilled within the seven (7) or fourteen (14) business days required by law, you have a right to challenge the decision by the responding agency to deny access. At your option, you may either:1) institute a proceeding in the Superior Court of New Jersey; or 2) file a complaint with the Government Records Council (“GRC”) by completing the Denial of Access Complaint Form. All questions regarding complaints filed in Superior Court should be directed to the Court Clerk in Cumberland County. Questions regarding the GRC’s Denial of Access Complaint process can directed to the GRC toll-free telephone at 866-850-0511, by mail at PO Box 819, Trenton, NJ, 08625, by e-mail at Government.Records@dca.nj.gov, or at their web site at www.state.nj.us/grc. The Council can answer general inquiries about OPRA.

Open Public Records Act (OPRA) N.J.S.A. 47:1A-1
The State of New Jersey enacted the Open Public Records Act which allows access to records deemed to be Government Records. The definition of a government records can be found under C.47:1A-1.1 Definitions on the State of New Jersey Government Records Council website.
