Cumberland County Weights and Measures Officers take pride in ensuring the protection of our consumers and business owners during daily monetary transactions for goods and services sold over devices used for commercial purposes. Cumberland County Office of Weights and Measures can issue summons/fines for violations when necessary to ensure enforcement.
It is the responsibility of the Weights and Measures department to inspect annually the devices used in Cumberland County for commercial purposes.
Some of the devices commonly used in day-to-day transactions are:
- SCALES: Deli, Supermarket, Precious Metals, Propane, Cannabis
- TIMING DEVICES: Tanning Beds, Laundromat Dryers
- METERS: Fuel Pumps (Gas station inspections), Fuel/Oil Delivery Trucks, Taxi Cabs, Water Meters
- COUNTERS: Coin Counting Machines, Pill Counters
Weights and Measures also performs SPECIALIZED INSPECTIONS such as:
- Price verification audits in stores to check for price accuracy from shelf to checkout
- Package reweighs to make sure the net contents is accurate (shrinkflation)
- Correct package labeling
- Credit card skimming device detection
- Octane analysis
